Supporting Sacred Heart School, Naivasha, Kenya dream for something better

A dream for something better, Wangari Cecilia

Dear Friends,

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

Please receive our love, gratitude and appreciation. Think about this…if it wasn’t for each one of
you, where would our children be at this hour? Thank you for accommodating them, giving them
hope, home and a decent life. The journey here has been tough, and we’ve almost had to quit the
race sometimes. We are very grateful that you have journeyed with us tirelessly for the last 9
years, through thick and thin.

The first 15 children that we took in 2011 did their secondary national exams in November; the
exams results were out last week and out of the 15 children 11 are going to join universities while
4 are going to join colleges. It’s amazing. Thank you so much. You have empowered these boys
and girls to build their lives and communities.

This year our Year 8 class performed excellently in the national primary exams. Both Simon (see
below) and Mercy (who we picked from the street of Mukuru slums in Nairobi whose mother is
deaf and dumb) were in the top 16 best pupils in Kenya. They appeared on the news on Kenyan
TV. They are joining one of the best high schools in Kenya. I didn’t rescue them from the streets –
each one of you did.

Thank you, dear friends – you are behind this success. We are very proud of you.

God bless you all.

Rebuilding after floods: New Year update

We’re happy to report that the School started to rebuild the kitchen and dining room last year, and we
now have foundations and walls, thanks to your donations. We now need to start on the roof, internal
renovations and plumbing to complete the rebuild, the cost of which we expect to be around ÂŁ5,000.
To help fund this, the Premier League has kindly pledged ÂŁ2,000; the kitchen and dining room are the
heart of the School so any further donations are, as always, greatly appreciated.

Success for Simon

Year 8 student Simon made national news this month for his outstanding grades; the Daily Nation newspaper said ‘Simon Mbogo was once a street child in Nairobi’s Mathare before a Catholic nun rescued him in 2014 and helped him get an education at Sacred Heart
Primary School in Naivasha. He went ahead to score 429 marks an earned himself a spot in Murang’a Boys High School.’ Simon exclaimed, “I feel like l have moved from the street where I used feed on cabbage…to the State House…White House…Palace…whatever you call it.” Your support makes such a difference to the future of Kenya’s poorest children.

A new addition!

Self-sufficiency is key to the School’s continuation, so we were delighted to have a new addition to ‘Chrissy’s Cowshed’. Our cows provide much needed milk for the pupils and can be a good source of income should they be sold on too.
