Mid-Year Update
Dear Friends,
May God fill each one of you with the Graces the Resurrection of Jesus Christ of Nazareth brings us.
We are doing well, the children are doing well, thank God we don’t hear much of the Corona monster. We are a bit free.
I am speechless, great things are happening, receive our Alleluia joy. You have rolled away the heavy stone of misery and poverty that covered the lives of these destitute children. With great love you have made a difference in their lives and have given them a second chance.
Jesus Christ gave us a second chance of salvation and made a difference to the lives of humanity. As we celebrate resurrection we celebrate the good performance of our year 8 national exam. Our first child was eighth in Kenya – read more about these results in this newsletter.
News has quickly spread about the excellent achievements of the children at Sacred Heart. I got a call from the Principal of Loreto Girls Limuru, a national government school in Nairobi and one of the best girls’ schools in Kenya. The Principal told me she was ready to sponsor three girls. Five orphan children who performed very well have also received sponsorship from Kenyan banks. Glory to God. It’s unbelievable because all our children have been selected to go to good secondary schools.
Thank you so much for working tirelessly to support us. Thank you for any minute you spent for our sake, it’s not in vain.
We assure you of our prayers and that you remain in our hearts. Thank you. Asante sana.
National Exams at Karuri School
Since the last newsletter, the school has been focused on the National exams. These are very important to the children as their results determine the next steps in life. Wangari reported that some of the young people chose to start their studies at 4.00 am in the run up to the exams! The achievements of some of the children are documented in this issue and make everything our little charity does worthwhile. One girl received the eighth highest result in the whole of Kenya and appeared on TV and the newspapers. The other children were so pleased they carried her around the school field on their shoulders. She will now go to Kenya High School. Three other girls (pictured) also did exceptionally well and will go on to Loreto Girls School. (This is an all Girls National High School in central Kenya, approximately 28 kilometres from the capital, Nairobi.)
We wish them every success in their new schools.
Esther’s Story, by Wangari
Hello dear friends. I have just got home after taking Esther to Naivasha Girls School. I took this photo where I bought the uniform this morning. I have found a person to sponsor her and pay for her school fees. Esther is a little girl we found 7 years ago on the streets of Naivasha. She had been through abuse so we took her to hospital and the doctor said her problem was psychological- she just needed care, love, healing and time. Today she is much healed: she is a little Angel who has worked so hard to get where she has.
Thank you all so much my dear friends.
Fundraising
A big thank you this edition to Jill and Marina, two of our long-serving volunteer committee members who, together with their army of contacts, have continued to send vast quantities of clothing, bedding, School uniforms and beautiful handmade quilts throughout the difficult times of the pandemic. The recent boxes of clothes and socks will be particularly welcome as the school heads into their winter….it can get very cold there!
Marina has also been the focal point of the Coppers For Karuri campaign and has raised hundreds of pounds in pennies!
