A dream for something better, Wangari Ceclia
Epic walk fundraising special
Well it finally happened! On Saturday 29th June, 4 fearless but apprehensive young men set off from Brixworth Country Park at 2.00am to walk the 55 miles or 88km or 120,000 steps of the Northampton Round. Preparations were meticulous and pit stop checkpoints arranged. The weather was perfect and I joined them at 6:30 am for the 5km stretch to Yardley Hastings. After the lunchtime stop in Ashton, the temperature started to rise and the afternoon 24 degrees caused the pace to slacken. By the time Bugbrooke was reached, 2 hours behind schedule , it was clear that bodies were suffering and extreme fatigue setting in.
Wangari and children at the school were following the walk and sending regular messages and songs of encouragement and a reminder for the walkers of the point of the whole endeavour.
By nightfall, there was still 15km to go , across fields in total darkness followed by the final uphill 2km climb up the inappropriately named Merry Tom Lane back to Brixworth at 1.00 am welcomed by a small but vociferous band of family and friends. All 4, Luke, Lewis, Tom and Stuart finished the walk and were barely able to speak or put one more blistered foot on the ground. Walking the equivalent of 2 marathons in one day was astonishing; all said it was the hardest challenge they had ever undertaken by a long way.
At 2am, Wangari wrote:
“Glory to God. They are so exhausted, scorched by the sun, they kept going in the midst of theses challenges….my heart and spirit are there at the scene to welcome them. I am trying to raise my neck to see if I can see them arriving. I am so pleased, thank you . Please greet them for us. You are heroes. I can go to bed now with joy! “
A huge thanks to everyone who has supported this by sponsoring the lads as we strive to fund the replacement crops and vegetables washed away in the floods and equip the new school building. If anyone hasn’t yet sponsored us and would like to, please donate via one of the links.
Message from Wangari
“Hello John and your family. You are very special in our lives. God has used you as our stepping stone in a Divine way. To encounter God and to know that He’s alive and we will always find Him if seek Him wholeheartedly through Faith. Jesus is still walking on earth and continues to do miracles, and l have witnessed this, and l give a testimony to what He has done. through the hope that John, your family, and our friends in England has given us and has done.
As l meditated about the four young heroes 👏 who walked day and night scorched by the heat, exhausted by the long journey 88kms,and never gave up until they finished the race….with one goal, to make a difference in the life of destitute children. Determined to pick a child on the street, eating from the garbage to say, get up from hopeless l give you hope and your life will never be the same again. This is a very powerful message from these four young men. I imagined them walking at the middle of the night. And under the heat not to win a personal MEDAL or MERIT but to give hope, to make a difference in the indifferent world. This is the power of God, the Father Almighty. Thank You God. I ask you one thing: Father, visit the hearts and the families of these young men. Please, Father, grant them whatever they will ask you for the Glory of your Holy Name.
I will go to the streets, and pick 4 children in the memory of these magnificent dedication and sacrifice that these men have done. That is really unconditional love.
Thank you again.”
