SUPPORTING SACRED HEART SCHOOL, NAIVASHA, KENYA DREAM FOR SOMETHING BETTER
A dream for something better, Wangari Ceclia
News from Wangari
This has been a difficult term for Wangari on several fronts. First the death of her beloved mother Angelica at the great age of 88 was a moment of great sadness and I am sure that all our supporters will offer their condolences and prayers for the repose of her soul.
Second, all of Kenya was rocked by the devastating fire at a boarding Primary School in the Nyeri district in which 21 pupils lost their lives. This has caused the Kenyan education authorities to make immediate inspections of all such schools. Wangari had two visits from the inspectors who found that the Sacred Heart school is in a good condition although they required the removal of the grilles on windows- which were installed for security reasons. The downside of the visit was that they wanted money or they threatened to give incorrect information about the school. Wangari was furious at this corrupt attempt to take advantage of such a tragic situation and refused to pay. We shall see if there is a negative report.
Epic Walk Fundraiser in Action
When all the donations finally arrived, this June’s marathon walk fundraiser achieved just over £4000, more than double the original target.
This enabled Wangari to purchase this year’s supply of beans this month; the price this year was lower than 2023 and Wangari managed to buy 20 sacks at 7000 Kenyan shillings per bag- a total cost of £850. We should also be able to fund the annual purchase of maize when the request arrives. So a big thank you to everyone who donated to the project and supported the walkers in their quest. I think they have recovered, but making it an annual event definitely will not happen!
New Pupils
Four new orphan boys were brought into the school last month and Wangari was keen to recognise the efforts of each of the four walkers. A ballot was held where each boy chose one of the walkers names as their new middle name. Hence pictured here are David Stu, Manasseh Lewis, John Luke, and Samuel Tom. We all wish them every success in their new educational adventure.

Message from Wangari
“Just picked this boy this morning as he was looking for something to eat in the garbage. When he spotted me, he came and begged me to buy him something to eat. He was stinking. I asked him if he would like to go to school, and he answered me yes. So l came with him to school. One hour later. I gave him a bath and clothes. What a transformation. He’s a Turkana boy. Thank you so much dear Friends for your support. God bless you abundantly.”
