SUPPORTING SACRED HEART SCHOOL, NAIVASHA, KENYA DREAM FOR SOMETHING BETTER

A dream for something better, Wangari Ceclia

Wangari visits Northampton

In May we were delighted to welcome Wangari back to her ‘home’ diocese of Northampton for only the second time since she returned to Kenya to open the Sacred Heart School in 2010.

Although it was partly to have a well earned rest, we managed to arrange a packed programme of visits. Wangari was keen to meet and thank the very many people who have supported her over the last 15 years and by the time she left on 26th May I think we can safely say that she did this.

Of course , Wangari missed no opportunity to pray in any of the Churches she visited and she spoke at Masses at the Northampton Cathedral, Sacred Heart, and St. Patrick’s churches. Her message of thanks and hope for the future was warmly received and a big thank you to everyone who gave donations.

Wangari also spoke to students at Thomas Becket School and they are looking at ways in which they can become involved in the Project.

We do intend to hold a follow up meeting in the coming months to ascertain whether anyone is interested in joining our committee.

Frank runs for Karuri!

We also send a huge thank you to Frank Waweru who decided to run the 4x4x48 challenge for the Project after hearing Wangari’s story. This involved running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours – almost two marathons! We are delighted to report that he successfully achieved this on 31st May and 1st June, surpassed his fundraising goal and raised over £1000. A fantastic effort Frank and thanks to everyone who sponsored him!

Message from Wangari

“My visit to England was a special blessing granted to me by God through each one of you, my dear friends.

Thank you so much for your care, love and generous hospitality, for accommodating me, taking me to different places, and creating such warm and beautiful memories together. I hold those moments close to my heart.

It was sad to see some dear friends unwell, and it reminded me that we are all pilgrims passing through this world . Still I treasure every encounter and carry them with love and gratitude.

Back at school, everything is running smoothly. I am so grateful to Ann and all the staff for their commitment and dedication while I was away. I truly missed the children and believe they missed me too! Some even cried tears of joy as they hugged me upon my return.

Once again, thank you all and may God bless you abundantly for your kindness, love and friendship.”
