SUPPORTING SACRED HEART SCHOOL, NAIVASHA, KENYA DREAM FOR SOMETHING BETTER
A dream for something better, Wangari Ceclia
Epic Walk Update
As mentioned in the last newsletter, this year’s major fundraiser will be an epic endurance walk totalling 88 kilometres around Northampton, known unsurprisingly as the Northampton Round. The walk will take place on Saturday 29th June, starting from Brixworth Country Park in the early hours. The walkers intend to complete the walk within 24 hours – 4 intrepid souls have signed up although more may join.
We have set up a JustGiving page that you can visit here to find out more and support the walkers.(https://www.justgiving.com/page/northampton-roundcharity-walk)
News from the school
This has been a difficult and stressful term at the Sacred Heart School. Wangari has had to juggle staff shortages, a new curriculum, admitting some new orphans with complex medical issues as well as trying to maintain momentum on the new building.
By Easter she was exhausted and needed to rest for a few days at her mother’s home. Wangari did, however send this message to her supporters in the UK.
“The children and I take the opportunity to wish you all a blessed Easter season. I am touched by God’s goodness and Mercy in His Divine providence. He has walked with us, through each one of you, in the wilderness and we have never lacked. Our school has been a sanctuary of hope and healing for so many destitute and orphaned
children.”
In February Wangari took in 3 orphans aged between 5 and 8 . Their feet were infected with the jigger flea, a common problem in Africa but shocking that children still have to live with levels of malnourishment and disease before they can begin to access learning.
Margaret Mullen
6th May 1935 – 2nd November 2023
Margaret Mullen, one of our long standing regular supporters passed away in November 2023 after a long and full life.
One of her last wishes was that the donations at her funeral be gifted to the Karuri School, so a huge thank you to her and her family for thinking of us in this way, as this raised over £1000 in total. As anyone who knew Margaret will testify, she will not be forgotten; may her dear soul Rest in Peace.
